The Pompeian Court event room was opened on October 28, 1955 and was used for thousands of events until the hotel closed in the early 1980s. It was reached either by a wonderful staircase toward the rear of the Grand Lobby or by one of the 6 elevators. The court had large colorful murals separated by white columns which enhanced the marble floor. Two near life-sized magnificent bronze Roman Women greeted you at the entrance. Each held an upraised lantern to welcome each guest. These ladies still grace the building sans the arm and are located now in the Grand Lobby. This all occasion room had adjustable lighting for use in dining, dancing and or cocktail parties. It also held many meetings and conventions during its glorious life.
